Sta. Monica Academy

Pinamungajan, Cebu

Welcome to Sta. Monica Academy!

The foundation of our school began in 1964, when Rev. Fr. Dionisio de Larosa responded to the call of parents in Pinamungajan, Cebu for a Catholic education. With the support and approval of then Archbishop Julio Rosales, the construction of the school beside the parish church was made possible. By mid-1965, an eight-room building was completed.

To ensure proper management of the school, Archbishop Rosales invited the Augustinian Recollect Missionary Sisters (now the Augustinian Recollect Sisters) to take charge. In June 1965, the first group of sisters arrived: Rev. Mother Luz Nitura, Sr. Melchora Bolarde, and Sr. Prudencia Martinez. With the help of three lay teachers, the school officially opened its doors in July 1965, offering Kindergarten to Second Year levels. It received government recognition in 1966 and held its first graduation ceremony in 1968.

Today, the school continues its mission of providing quality Catholic education and is now under the management of the Archdiocese of Cebu.
